Residents are an essential part of any folk club. They provide support performances to guest artistes and also form a solid base for singers nights and encourage those of us with more modest talents. At the Wooden Horse we are fortunate to have several of the best!

CloseQuarters

The four part harmony group Quartz have been residents and stalwarts of our club for many years but sadly their bass singer Peter Gleave passed away earlier this year. The love and respect that he engendered was demonstrated by the number of the NW region folk music community who attended his funeral and turned the day into a celebration of Peter's life.

However, Peter's widow Judith and her fellow 'Quartzers' Steve and Sandra are keeping the songs and much of the sound alive and continue to be our residents. Peter's fine bass voice is of course much missed but the excellent close harmonies fully justify the name CloseQuarters.

LocTup Together

Chris Lock and Ian Tupling are 'LocTup Together'. Their well crafted harmonies and Ian's skilful guitar playing make them a joy to listen to.

Their principle musical interest is songs of the sea for which they are well known in the UK and also in mainland Europe. Chris and Ian are also one half of the foursome 'maritime' group Four 'n' Aft.

For more info, see their website: http://www.loctuptogether.co.uk/

  Mark Dowding

We are lucky to count Mark amongst our resident artistes. His musical interests developed at a young age, starting to learn guitar at age eleven. His contributions to the folk scene, particularly in the north west area are too numerous to list here, best visit his web site:

His interpretations of Jake Thackray songs are particularly popular with audiences but are only a tiny fraction of the music that he has recorded or otherwise been involved with. Details of his own CD releases and also those on which he has collaborated are to be found at the web address above.
